During his official visit to Azerbaijan, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Somalia and Azerbaijan, describing the trip as a milestone in bilateral relations.

“This visit is not just a diplomatic meeting; it is the beginning of a deep understanding and strategic cooperation between Somalia and Azerbaijan. It carries practical achievements that will strengthen the relationship between our two countries,” President Mohamud stated during a press conference in Baku.

The Somali leader held discussions with Azerbaijani officials, including President Ilham Aliyev, focusing on enhancing cooperation in defense, trade, and cultural exchange. A key outcome of the talks was the signing of a defense cooperation agreement between the two nations, which President Mohamud described as a pivotal moment in their partnership.

“We are committed to fostering a relationship that addresses our current needs and lays the groundwork for sustained collaboration in the future,” he added.

President Mohamud highlighted the potential benefits of the partnership, including improved security measures and economic development initiatives. He expressed confidence that the collaboration would yield tangible results for both countries.

In addition to meeting with government officials, President Mohamud engaged with Azerbaijani business leaders to explore investment opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, technology, and infrastructure.

The visit underscores Somalia’s commitment to building strategic alliances that promote stability and growth in the region, further solidifying its position on the global stage.
