The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today welcomed the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, in Mogadishu. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral relations and strategic cooperation between Somalia and the African Union.
President Hassan Sheikh commended the African Union for its pivotal role in supporting peacebuilding, and enhancing internal security in Somalia. He also highlighted the bravery and sacrifices of the African Union peacekeeping forces stationed in Somalia.
The President reiterated Somalia’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism, which poses a threat to the Somali people and hinders the country’s development. He praised the increased support from regional countries in counter-terrorism efforts.
“Terrorism will find no safe haven in Somalia. Our people have stood firm against it, and with Allah’s will, we will succeed in erasing this threat said President Hassan Sheikh.
Additionally, the President and the African Union Commission Chairperson discussed advancing economic cooperation, reforming state institutions, and enhancing regional security to ensure lasting peace and stability.
President Hassan Sheikh emphasized Somalia’s active role in supporting the African Union’s reform agenda and sharing its experience in conflict resolution and peacebuilding to benefit other countries in the region and the continent.
