The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a formal dinner tonight with the leadership and members of both chambers of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, requesting a special session to address Parliament directly.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and his deputies, along with Presidents of Somalia’s federal states: Ahmed Abdi Kariye of Galmudug, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed of Southwest State, and Ali Abdullahi Hussein of Hirshabelle.
In his address, President Hassan Sheikh expressed appreciation for the federal state leaders participating in the National Consultation Forum, aimed at discussing the country’s future and progress, particularly the final stages of liberating areas still under extremist control, strengthening national security, rebuilding the armed forces, and supporting the Somali people’s aspirations for democratic leadership.
“We will engage with our brothers who hold different views; if they allow us, we will reach out to them, and if not, they will come to us. Unity and solidarity are what we seek. Today, our people have a unique opportunity to realize their hopes, and together we will work to strengthen national security, finalize the liberation of areas where extremists are hiding, and fulfill the Somali vision that our people expect from us,” he stated.
The President emphasized the crucial role that Members of the Federal Parliament have played recently in advancing constitutional reforms, safeguarding national unity, and sustaining public hope in Somalia’s state-building process.
