Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stated that October 25, 2024, marked a historic milestone as the world witnessed Somalia’s potential for investment. Speaking at a ceremony held at Mogadishu’s port to welcome the ORUC REIS vessel, which will conduct oil exploration in Somali waters, President Hassan Sheikh emphasized Somalia’s ambitions to benefit from its natural resources.
The President described this as a transformative step towards economic growth and significant job creation, underscoring the Somali government’s commitment to responsibly harnessing the nation’s resources for the public’s benefit. The event was attended by officials from both Somali and Turkish governments, where President Hassan Sheikh extended his gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish people for their steadfast support in Somali nation-building and development.
He acknowledged the solidarity shown by Turkey, noting that Turkey has consistently reminded the world of Somalia’s potential and importance, especially during challenging times.
